The Opel 21/45 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG only in 1909 as a successor to the model 18/30 PS built.
History and technology The 21/45 PS replaced the 18/30 PS and was added to the smaller and cheaper 16/35 PS model .
The 21/45 PS had a side-controlled four - cylinder block engine with a displacement of 5322 cm³ (bore × stroke = 110 mm × 140 mm), the 45 PS (33 kW) at 1600 rpm. performed. The engine was water-cooled; a centrifugal pump provided the cooling water. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft . This enabled the car to reach a top speed of 80 km / h.

The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs on the sheet steel U-profile frame. The service brake was an internal shoe brake that acted on the output shaft of the gearbox. The handbrake was designed as a drum brake on the rear wheels.
The car was available as a four-seat double phaeton , a four-door Pullman limousine , a landaulet or a two-door coupé . The cheapest variant (double phaeton) cost 16,000 RM.
Production of the 21/45 hp was stopped at the end of 1909. The successor was the somewhat smaller 18/40 hp , which was only built from 1912 .
