The Opel 9/10 PS was a middle class passenger car that Adam Opel KG built from 1903 to 1906 as the successor to the 12 PS model .

History and technology

The predecessor 12 PS, which otherwise largely corresponded to the 10/12 PS model that was still being built , but was lighter and faster with its more modern design, System Darracq , sold so badly that its production soon had to be discontinued. It was too expensive and therefore Opel launched a new model with a weaker engine, which could be offered a whole 700 RM cheaper.

The engine of the 9/10 PS was, like that of the predecessor, a two-cylinder in - line engine with 1885 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 100 mm × 120 mm). However, it only developed 9 hp (6.6 kW) at 1200 rpm. The side-controlled T-head motor was water-cooled. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a three-speed gearbox with sequential steering column shift and a cardan shaft . The maximum speed of the car was 50 km / h.

The frame consisted of sheet steel U-profiles. The wood reinforcement of the predecessor was omitted. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs. The service brake acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake was designed as a band brake that worked on the rear wheels.

There were two body styles, a two-seat Phaeton and a four-seat tonneau . The coupe was no longer offered. The cheapest variant (Phaeton) cost 6500 RM.

In 1906 the production of the 12 hp was stopped. He remained without a successor.
