Ottawa County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Minneapolis . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is northeast of the geographic center of Kansas, about 80 km to the north from Nebraska , and has an area of 1,870 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered (clockwise) by the following counties: Cloud County , Clay County , Dickinson County , Saline County , Lincoln County, and Mitchell County .

Ottawa County was formed on February 27, 1860. It was named after the Ottawa , an Indian tribe.

According to the 2000 census , Ottawa County had 6,163 people in 2,430 households and 1,718 families in Ottawa County. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.53 percent white, 0.54 percent African American, 0.37 percent Native American, 0.13 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.32 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.09 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.30 percent of the population.
Of the 2,430 households, 31.6 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.4 percent were married couples living together, 6.3 percent were single mothers, and 29.3 percent were non-families. 25.7 percent of all households were single households and 13.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 2.96 people.
25.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 5.8 percent between 18 and 24 years, 26.7 percent between 25 and 44 years, 24.2 percent between 45 and 64 years and 17.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 99.9 males. For every 100 adult women aged 18 and over there were 95.9 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 38,009 , and the median income for a family is $ 46,033. Males had a median income of $ 30,761 versus $ 21,380 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,663.
