Saline County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Salina .

The county is located slightly northeast of the geographic center of Kansas and covers an area of ​​1,868 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Ottawa County , Dickinson County , Marion County , McPherson County , Ellsworth County, and Lincoln County .

history

Saline County was formed on February 15, 1860. It was named, like the district capital, after the Saline River .

Saline County has a National Historic Landmark , the Whiteford (Price) Site . A total of 15 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 30, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , Saline County had 53,597 people; 21,436 households and 14,212 families were counted. The population density was 29 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 89.17 percent white, 3.10 percent African American, 0.52 percent Native American, 1.70 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.33 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.14 percent were descended from two or more races.
