Schüller is a municipality in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Gerolstein community .
Geographical location
The place is in the western Hocheifel in the natural area Upper Kylltal .
history
The origins of the place are said to be at a Roman military station called Scolinaria on a road that led between Steffeln via Glaadt to Cologne . This station probably served as an outpost of the Roman fort Icorigium (today Jünkerath ). The place was first mentioned in a document on September 19, 855 as Sconilare . Here, shortly before his death , Emperor Lothar I issued his last document : With the division of Prüm , the so-called Middle Kingdom was divided among his sons.
Up until the 14th century there is hardly any other evidence of Schüller. In 1586 Schüller is said to have been a fiefdom of Mr. von Schönberg and Hartelstein. In 1609 Hugo Augustin von Schönberg leased the village to Count Arnold von Manderscheid-Blankenheim . In 1727 Schüller belonged to the Luxembourg dominion of Kronenburg .
As a result of the Peace of Basel in 1795 after the First Coalition War , Schüller came to the French Ourthe department , but joined Prussia in 1815 as a result of the wars of liberation .
As part of the functional and territorial reform of Rhineland-Palatinate , the community of Schüller was reclassified together with 14 other communities on November 7, 1970 from the district of Prüm , which was dissolved at the same time, to the district of Daun (since 2007 the district of Vulkaneifel).
Today Schüller is a small, typical Eifel village; there are hardly any commercial enterprises and only a few full-time farmers. But several artists have / had settled in the place (including Georg Meistermann , Christof Breidenich, Florin Negreanu and Hendrik Timmermann). Georg Meistermann lived in Schüller from 1972 until his death in June 1990.

coat of arms
Blazon : "Shield, divided nine times by silver and blue, in the middle a silver pole, inside an upright, blue sword with a golden handle." | |
Justification for the coat of arms: The shield , divided nine times by silver and blue, reminds of the sovereign affiliation of the municipality of Schüller to the Duchy of Luxembourg, which had a shield divided nine times in this tinge . The sword stands as an attribute of Saint Paul for the church and site patron who was executed by the sword. The local community Schüller has had the coat of arms since 1987. |
