The Wichita County is a county in the state of Kansas of the United States . The county seat is Leoti . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located almost in the far west of Kansas, about 25 miles from Colorado and covers an area of ​​1,861 square kilometers with no significant water surface. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Logan County , Scott County , Kearny County , Hamilton County , Greeley County, and Wallace County .

history

Wichita County was formed as the original Free Territory County on March 6, 1873. It was named after the Wichita Indian people . Other sources give the year 1886.

One of the county's buildings, the William B. and Julia Washington House , is on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 30, 2017).

Wichita County had a population of 2,531 people as of the 2000 census . Of these, 25 lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 967 households and 723 families in Wichita County.
