Basketball Bundesliga 2008/09

The 2009/10 Basketball Bundesliga season (officially Beko Basketball Bundesliga ) was the 44th season of the top German division in men's basketball . The regular season began on October 9, 2009 and ended on May 1, 2010. From May 8 to June 17, 2010, the play-off games of the best eight teams from the main round took place.

mode

The 18 teams played against each other twice in a round trip. The best eight teams in the final table that emerged after 34 match days played against each other in the play-offs in a knockout system in the best-of-five mode, with the seeding list resulting from a certain scheme and the team better positioned in the final table possibly decisive game at home. The worst two teams in the final table were relegated. If two or more teams were tied, the direct comparison of the teams involved counted. The awarding of points has been new since this season: two points were awarded for a win and one point for the loser.

Season Notes

  • From this season the league operated under the name Beko BBL , after a sponsorship agreement with the electronics company Beko was agreed.
  • The BBL was shown on free TV for the first time in several years: DSF broadcast one game per weekend live as well as selected games on the station's homepage.
  • Phoenix Hagen and the Central German BC from Saxony-Anhalt were new to the league .
  • Internationally, German basketball was represented this season by the following teams: Master Oldenburg qualified for the ULEB Euroleague ; for the ULEB Eurocup the previous year's finalist Telekom Baskets Bonn , the semi-finalist Alba Berlin , who failed to qualify for the Euroleague to Marousi Athens , and the Brose Baskets from Bamberg ; for the EuroChallenge hosted by FIBA , last year's quarter-finalist BG Göttingen and the ninth Artland Dragons . While master Oldenburg was eliminated in the first group stage after just one win, Alba Berlin reached the final in the Eurocup, where they lost to Power Electronics Valencia . The BG Göttingen, on the other hand, was able to win the cup as the host of the Final Four tournament of the EuroChallenge and thus ensured only the third title win of a German club team in a European competition.
  • In the first round of the play-offs, the quarter-finals, all four top-placed teams in the main round, who had home rights in the first game of the series, were eliminated. The champions in the all-important game of the final series were the fifth-placed Brose Baskets, who defeated the seventh-placed Deutsche Bank Skyliners from Frankfurt am Main 72:70. They achieved the double after beating the same opponent in the cup final two months earlier .
