Butler County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The county seat is Morgantown , named after Daniel Morgan Smith , the first white child born in the area. The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in west central Kentucky, about 50 km to the south from Tennessee , about 70 km to the north from Indiana , and covers an area of 1,118 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Ohio County , Grayson County , Edmonson County , Warren County , Logan County, and Muhlenberg County .
history
Butler County was formed on January 18, 1810 from parts of Logan County and Ohio County. It was named after Richard Butler (1743-1791), a general in the American War of Independence who fell against Indians in the battle of the Wabash River .

As of the 2000 census , Butler County had 13,010 people. Of these, 238 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 5,059 households and 3,708 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.88 percent white, 0.52 percent African American, 0.22 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian and 0.60 percent of residents from the Pacific island area; 0.61 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.04 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,059 households, 34.4 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 60.3 percent were married couples living together, 9.3 percent were single mothers, 26.7 percent were non-families, 23.7 percent were single households and 10.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.98 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.3 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 9.5 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.2 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 12.8 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 96.2 men.
The median income for a household in the 29,405 USD , and the median income for a family was 35,317 USD. Males had a median income of $ 26,449 versus $ 19,894 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,617. 13.1 percent of families and 16.0 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 18.5 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 22.5 percent were people over 65 years of age.
