Clinton County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The administrative seat ( county seat ) is Albany , which was named after the city of the same name in the state of New York . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in southern Kentucky on the border with Tennessee and has an area of ​​532 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water. In Kentucky, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Russell County , Wayne County, and Cumberland Counties .

history

Clinton County was formed on February 20, 1836 from parts of Cumberland County and Wayne County. It was named after New York State Governor DeWitt Clinton .

According to the 2000 census , Clinton County had 9,634 people in 4,086 households and 2,811 families. The population density was 19 inhabitants per square kilometer.
