Clinton County is a county in the state of Kentucky in the United States . The administrative seat ( county seat ) is Albany , which was named after the city of the same name in the state of New York . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in southern Kentucky on the border with Tennessee and has an area of 532 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water. In Kentucky, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Russell County , Wayne County, and Cumberland Counties .
history
Clinton County was formed on February 20, 1836 from parts of Cumberland County and Wayne County. It was named after New York State Governor DeWitt Clinton .
Two of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of September 6, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , Clinton County had 9,634 people in 4,086 households and 2,811 families. The population density was 19 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.09 percent white, 0.10 percent African American, 0.25 percent Native American, 0.04 percent Asian, 0.11 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.08 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.32 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.22 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,086 households, 29.8 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 55.5 percent were married couples living together, 9.7 percent were single mothers, 31.2 percent were non-families, 28.4 percent were single households, and 12.8 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.85.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.7 percent of residents under the age of 18, 8.6 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 26.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 15.0 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 91.5 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 19,563 , and the median income for a family is $ 25,919. Males had a median income of $ 21,193 versus $ 16,194 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,286. 20.2 percent of families and 25.8 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 31.8 percent were children or young people under the age of 18 and 29.9 percent were people over 65 years of age.
