Stachanow (Ukrainian and Russian Стаханов - Ukrainian officially Kadijiwka / Кадіївка again since May 12, 2016 ) is a city in Luhansk Oblast in eastern Ukraine with around 76,000 inhabitants (2016).
The city, dominated by coal mining, is located about 50 km west of the oblast capital Luhansk in the Donbass region.
history
The city was called until 1978 Kadijiwka ( Кадіївка ), 1937-1940 also briefly Serho ( Серго ) and then by Alexei Stakhanov renamed. From July 1942 to September 3, 1943, the city was occupied by troops of the German Wehrmacht . The Stakhanov tram ( Стахановський трамвай ) operated in the city from 1937 to 2008, and a trolleybus system (Ukrainian Стахановський тролейбус ) in existence since 1970 was discontinued in mid-2011. Since summer 2014, the city has been occupied by separatists from the Lugansk People's Republic during the war in Ukraine .

The municipality of Stachanow has a total of 92,132 inhabitants and is administratively divided into the two cities of Almasna and Irmino in addition to the actual city .
