The Switzerland participated in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in the Chinese capital Beijing with 84 of the Swiss Olympic Association nominated athletes, 38 women and 46 men in 20 sports part.
Since 1896 it was Switzerland's 26th participation in the Summer Olympics . This made Switzerland, along with Australia , Greece , France and the United Kingdom, one of the five nations that had previously participated in all the Summer Olympics.
Flag bearer
Like four years before, tennis player Roger Federer carried the flag of Switzerland during the opening ceremony ; at the closing ceremony it was worn by judoka Sergei Aschwanden .
Medals
With two won gold, one silver and four bronze, the Swiss team was ranked 34 in the medal count .

Due to a doping offense committed by the Norwegian show jumpers, the Swiss show jumpers were subsequently awarded a bronze medal. On November 17, 2009, the Italian Davide Rebellin was officially stripped of her silver medal in the street race because of a doping offense. Fabian Cancellara subsequently received the silver medal.
Participants by sport
The Swiss Olympic Association named 83 athletes by July 22, 2008. The beach volleyball duo Kuhn / Schwer was nominated on July 31, 2008. Road cyclist Michael Albasini had to be withdrawn from the Swiss Olympic team before the start of the Olympic Games due to a serious shoulder injury. Show jumper Beat Mändli also had to give up before the start of the Olympic Equestrian Games in Hong Kong because of an injury to his top horse Idéo du Thot . On the other hand, the freestyle wrestler Grégory Sarrasin was nominated. The Swiss Olympic delegation thus comprised 84 athletes and four substitute athletes. It was the smallest Swiss team in 32 years.
