The diocese of Rome is divided into two vicariats. One for the 332 parishes on the Italian territory and one for the two parishes on the territory of the Vatican City . The Italian parishes are organized into five sectors (settori). These are in turn divided into a total of 36 prefectures. An auxiliary bishop is assigned to each sector . Each prefecture is headed by a prefect who is elected by the pastors of the parishes. The two parishes of the Diocese of Ostia are added to the 332 parishes in the Italian territory of the Diocese of Rome .

Diocesan territory

There is no connection between the area of the city of Rome and the diocese of Rome.

There are parishes and churches that belong to the city of Rome, but ecclesiastically belong to another diocese. For example, some parishes in Municipio XV belong to the diocese of Porto-Santa Rufina . Other areas belong to the dioceses of Frascati and Tivoli ;
Conversely, areas of other cities belong to the diocese of Rome. For example, some parishes in the parish of Guidonia belong to the diocese of Rome.

Organization of the Vicariate of Rome

The supreme authority of the diocese is the Pope as Bishop of Rome . He usually exercises this through the Vicar General of His Holiness for the Diocese of Rome . The main organs and pastoral bodies of the diocese are:

Consiglio episcopale: Kolegiales the organ from the Cardinal Vicar, the Vizegerent comprised, the Auxiliary Bishops and a secretary.
