The 2018/19 Raiffeisen Super League was the 122nd season of the top Swiss division in men's football. Ten teams took part. It began on July 21, 2018 with the home game of FC Basel against FC St. Gallen (1: 2) and the home game of FC Luzern against the newly promoted Neuchâtel Xamax (0: 2) and ended on May 25, 2019 with the 36th . The defending champion was BSC Young Boys , who left the series champions FC Basel behind them last season after they had become Swiss champions eight times in a row. Qualifying teams' venues |
In the Super League, the ten clubs competed against each opponent twice at home and twice away. In total, each team played 36 games. The first-placed wore the title of Swiss Champion 2019 and was given the chance to qualify for the group stage of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League via the play- offs (leg and leg) . The last placed was relegated to the Challenge League.
The second-placed team was given the chance to advance to the group stage of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League via two qualifying rounds. The teams in positions three and four of the championship were allowed to qualify for the group stage of the 2019/20 UEFA Europa League . The fifth-placed team was also given a starting place, as the cup winner was among the teams that had already qualified.
For the first time since the 2011/12 season, an extraordinary general assembly decided to reintroduce the barrage for the two highest leagues. Thus, in the future, the team played in 9th place against the runner-up in the Challenge League to stay in the Super League.
