The Allen County is a county in the US state of Kentucky . The county seat is Scottsville , which was named after Governor Charles Scott . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in southern Kentucky, borders the state of Tennessee in the south and has an area of 912 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water.
To the east, the county is bounded by Barren River Lake , a reservoir of the Barren River .

history
Allen County was formed on January 11, 1815 from former parts of Barren County and Warren County. It was named after John Allen (1771-1813), who was killed in the Battle of River Raisin in the British-American War in 1813.
A fire in the courthouse on October 2, 1902 destroyed many documents.
