The series F01 of the 7 Series model modeling of BMW solved the model since 2001 produced the luxury sedan November 15, 2008 E65 from.

The models with an extended wheelbase (+140 mm) have their own series designation F02 and are marked with an L in the sales description .

In autumn 2015, the BMW F01 was replaced by the new G11 series , which was presented on June 10, 2015. The G11 is the first BMW on the new modular 35up platform.

Model history

General

The series was presented to the press in Munich on July 3, 2008 . The model had its formal trade fair premiere in October 2008 at the Paris Motor Show .

The design of the fifth generation of the 7 series takes up elements of the two previous models E38 and E65 as well as the Concept CS study presented in 2007 . The trunk, the lid of which does not appear to be attached like its direct predecessor, holds 500 liters.

Facelift

BMW 730d xDrive (2012-2015)

In July 2012, the series underwent a subtle model upgrade.

Externally, the revised models of the 7-series can only be recognized by the slightly modified BMW kidney grille , modified bumpers and headlights.

Inside are slimmer acting seats, a new central display with 3D look, different display graphics (red, blue and green), standard ZF eight-step automatic transmission , full LED headlights and revised electronics for the LED - High-beam assistant (BMW Selective Beam glare-free high beam assistant and Dynamic Light Spot pedestrian marking ).

Three new engines were also used:

the 740i (3.0-l in-line six-cylinder petrol engine) with 235 kW, the 750i (4.4-l V8 petrol engine) with a maximum output of 330 kW and the 750d xDrive (3.0-l in-line six-cylinder Diesel engine) with a maximum output of 280 kW.

Furnishing

  • Driver-oriented cockpit with display in black panel technology (one screen for all instruments in the instrument panel , on which chrome rings are glued; with variable screen display of the displays and pointers)
  • The electronic gear selector lever of the standard automatic transmission has been reinstalled in the center console (on the previous model on the steering wheel)
  • iDrive with high-resolution 7-inch display (10.2 inches for the navigation system, which is mostly subject to a surcharge)
  • Driving dynamics control with the levels "ECO PRO", "COMFORT +", "COMFORT", "SPORT" and "SPORT +" (change of chassis, steering, engine and transmission)

In the F01 there were several driver assistance systems such as

Motorization and drive

The 7 Series was initially available in three engine variants: The 740i has a three - liter in- line six-cylinder engine with two turbochargers , which has a maximum output of 240 kW and a standard consumption of 9.9 liters of Super Plus per 100 kilometers. The 750i with a 4.4-liter V8 engine also has two turbochargers, has a maximum output of 300 kW and consumes 11.4 liters of Super Plus per 100 kilometers. The only diesel engine version at first was the 730d with a three-liter in-line six-cylinder engine, a maximum output of 180 kW and a standard consumption of 7.2 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers.

The 760i and a newly developed biturbo in-line six-cylinder diesel engine in the 740d with a maximum output of 225 kW were introduced later. Thanks to the biturbo design, the 740d has almost the same fuel consumption in the standard cycle as the 730d despite its significantly higher performance, and thus undercuts other luxury-class diesel vehicles themselves in some cases significantly.

Components for a mild hybrid drive were developed in cooperation with Daimler . A storage catalytic converter (BMW marketing term: BluePerformance Technologie) was also available for the 730d / Ld , which is supposed to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions and thus achieve the Euro 6 standard .

With the facelift, which was available from July 21, 2012, the engines were also revised: The 730d has a maximum output of 190 kW, while the 740d now has 230 kW. The triple-charged ( multi-stage charging ) diesel engine with a maximum output of 280 kW in the 750d xDrive was new. The 750i increased to a maximum output of 330 kW, the 740i to 235 kW, the 760i with V12 engine remained unchanged. The xDrive all-wheel drive was standard in the BMW 750d and optionally available in the 730d, 740d and 750i.

safety

In addition to ABS (with Brake Assist and Cornering Brake Control ), all F01 have three-point seat belts on all seats, including belt stoppers and belt buckle tensioners on the front seats and an ESP with traction control (with BMW Dynamic Stability Control, DSC or Dynamic Traction Control , Called DTC). They have a total of eight airbags (driver / front passenger, four head airbags and side airbags for driver and front passenger), as well as active headrests at the front.

7 series high security (F03)

The models 760Li High Security and 750Li High Security are certified in accordance with the test guideline BRV 2009 of the VPAM and classified in resistance class 7. The non-transparent areas of the body correspond to resistance class 9. The maximum speed of both models is electronically limited to 210 km / h. Internally, the high-security variant of the fifth generation of the 7 series is referred to as the F03 series.

Callbacks

A recall campaign launched on May 29, 2018 also affects copies of the 750d xDrive and 750Ld xDrive. Conspicuous measurements of emissions during practical driving of a 750d xDrive by Deutsche Umwelthilfe in the context of the emissions scandal led to the official recall of the Federal Motor Transport Authority . The "existing impermissible disconnection devices " in the engine control must be removed by a software update.
