The Bakersfield Condors are an American ice hockey franchise based in Bakersfield , California . The team has played in the American Hockey League (AHL) since the 2015/16 season and acts as the Edmonton Oilers' farm team .

history

In December 2014, the Oklahoma City Barons announced that they would cease their gaming operations at the end of the 2014/15 season. In January 2015, the American Hockey League announced an extensive restructuring for the 2015/16 season , as part of which a new Pacific Division was established and five teams relocated to California . One of these five teams was the Oklahoma City Barons, who henceforth operate as Bakersfield Condors. They took over the identity of the Bakersfield Condors from the ECHL , which were relocated to Norfolk at the same time and formed the Norfolk Admirals there. As with the ECHL franchise, the Rabobank Arena serves as the home arena .

Gerry Fleming , who had coached the Oklahoma City Barons the year before, was named the Condors' first head coach. After the 2017/18 season, he was replaced by Jay Woodcroft .
