Clarke County is a county in the state of Virginia in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 12,652 people and a population density of 28 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Berryville .

Clarke County is located almost in the far north of Virginia, bordering West Virginia and has an area of ​​462 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Loudoun County , Fauquier County , Warren County, and Frederick County .

history

It was formed on March 8, 1836 from parts of Frederick County. It was named after the explorer and general George Rogers Clark .
