Kunštát (German: Kunstadt ) is a town in Okres Blansko in the Czech Republic . It is located 11 km west of Boskovice .

history

Kunštát

Kunstadt was first mentioned in 1281. At that time it belonged to the Olomouc treasurer Kuna of Zbraslav and Kunstadt , who is documented for the years 1250-1295. He founded the Kuna family branch ( Kunova linie ), from which the gender name of the lords of Kunstadt is derived, which was transferred to all subsequent branches of the family, including the Bohemian lineage of the lords of Podebrady .

The Kunstadt Castle is only documented for 1360. After 1408 Kunstadt belonged to Boček II of Podebrady († 1417). He bequeathed Kunstadt to his sons Boček and Viktorin . After 1448, the latter passed on to his son Georg von Podiebrad , who arranged for the castle to be rebuilt.

The last owner of the Kunstadt estate was Ludwig Zajímač, who belonged to the Kunstadt and Lichtenau family branch. Wilhelm II von Pernstein bought it from him in 1520 . After several changes of ownership, Kunstadt fell to Stephan Schmied von Freihofen, who after 1620 housed Kunstadt Johann Amos Comenius in the castle and who later had to go into exile himself because of his commitment to Calvinism .

In 1680, Kunstadt was owned by the Austrian nobleman Johann Maximilian von Lamberg . The last owners from 1901 were the Coudenhove-Honrichs, who were expropriated in 1945. Ceramics production developed from 1889, later the machine and chemical industries also settled. On July 1, 1994, Kunštát was elevated to the status of a city.
