Individual evidence

  1. Maria Meyer-Sevenich left the SPD on February 13, 1970 and was accepted into the CDU on February 17, 1970. The CDU and FDP had 68 + 7 = 75 seats in the state parliament, that was the majority of the 149 members of parliament. Meyer-Sevenich died on March 3, so for a short time the CDU and FDP only had 74 of 148 seats, no majority. Her seat was filled on March 6 by Johann Pieper from the SPD for which she had been elected. Since two SPD members had left the state parliament on March 4, the CDU and FDP again had an arithmetical majority of 74 seats between March 4 and 12 (of 146 and 147 seats in total). Only when two SPD parliamentary group members moved up on March 12, the CDU and FDP finally lost their majority again. The original government majority of the SPD and FDP was lost in April 1969 when three FDP members left the party. On November 5, 1969, the CDU became the strongest parliamentary group in the state parliament by admitting these three.
