The People's Republic of China took in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta for the eighth time at Summer Olympics in part. The team consisted of 294 athletes, of whom 111 were men and 183 women. These started in 155 decisions in 25 sports.

Flag bearer

Basketball player Liu Yudong carried the flag of the People's Republic of China during the opening ceremony on July 19 at the Centennial Olympic Stadium .

Medalist

16 won gold, 22 silver and 12 bronze medals the Chinese team finished 4th in the medal count .

The most successful starters were the swimmer Le Jingyi and the gymnast Li Xiaoshuang , who each won one gold and two silver medals.

The youngest Chinese participant was swimmer Nian Yun at 13 years and 287 days, the oldest was handball player Wang Tao at 39 years and 43 days.
