The Ontario Reign are an American ice hockey franchise based in Ontario , California . The team has played in the American Hockey League (AHL) since the 2015/16 season and acts as the Los Angeles Kings farm team .

history

In January 2015, the American Hockey League announced an extensive restructuring for the 2015/16 season , as part of which a new Pacific Division was established and five teams relocated to California . One of these five teams was the Manchester Monarchs , who swapped places with the Ontario Reign from the ECHL . Thus, an AHL franchise was formed under the name Ontario Reign, while the Manchester Monarchs play in the ECHL from now on. Both teams remained cooperation partners of the Los Angeles Kings and owned by the Anschutz Entertainment Group . The Ontario Reign play their home games in the Citizens Business Bank Arena .

Mike Stothers , who had won the Calder Cup with the Monarchs the year before , was named the first head coach of the Ontario Reign.
