The Opel 14/20 PS was an automobile of the upper class , which the Adam Opel KG from 1905 to early 1908 as a successor to the model 16/18 PS built. Then the engine output was increased a little so that the 14/20 PS became the Opel 14/22 PS , which was continued to be built until the end of the year.

History and technology

By enlarging the bore by 15 mm, the 16/18 PS engine became the 14/20 PS. It was the four - cylinder block engine of the predecessor, but with 3402 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 105 mm × 120 mm). It now developed 20 hp (14.7 kW) at 1400 rpm. The side-controlled engine was water-cooled. The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via a leather cone clutch, a manual four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft . The maximum speed of the car was 60 km / h.

The frame differed significantly from that of the predecessor. It was made entirely of sheet steel and was composed of U-profiles. The two rigid axles were suspended from semi-elliptical leaf springs. The service brake was designed as an internal shoe brake that acted on the transmission output shaft. The handbrake worked on the drums on the rear wheels.

The 14/20 PS was available as a four-seater double phaeton or four-door sedan . With the cheapest structure (double phaeton) it cost 11,000 RM.

In early 1908 the engine output was increased to 22 HP (16.2 kW), all other values of the model remained the same. Accordingly, the cars were now offered as 14/22 hp. Production of this model was also discontinued at the end of the same year. The successor was the 13/30 PS , which appeared only three years later.
