The one-day race Paris – Roubaix 1997 was the 95th edition of the cycling classic and took place on Sunday, April 13, 1997.
The race led from Compiègne , around 80 kilometers north of Paris , to Roubaix , where it ended in the Vélodrome André-Pétrieux . The entire route was 266.5 kilometers long. 177 drivers started, 75 of whom were able to place; two other drivers reached the finish outside of the time limit. The winner Frédéric Guesdon completed the race with an average speed of 40.16 km / h .
Frédéric Guesdon and Andrej Tschmil drove away, but with one kilometer from the finish they were overtaken by six other drivers, among them the favorite Johan Museeuw (who had two flat tires in the last 40 kilometers). Guesdon won the race in the sprint out of this group of eight drivers.
