Stars in the Euro NCAP - Crash Test |
The VW Beetle (Type 5C) (in France Coccinelle , in Italy Maggiolino , in Iceland Bjalla , in Brazil Fusca ) is a Volkswagen brand automobile with a retro design based on the VW Beetle .
The vehicle succeeded the New Beetle (Type 9C) produced until summer 2010 and is now simply called "Beetle" - as the previous model was already called in common parlance.
The production was done at Volkswagen de México in Mexico's Puebla and expired on July 10 of 2019.
The Beetle was in direct competition with the Mini model from BMW . While the Mini with seven model variants sold more than 300,000 times worldwide, sales of the Beetle with only two model variants are falling sharply. Above all, the excessively high entry prices are criticized.
On April 29, 2017, Volkswagen stopped importing the Beetle Coupé to Germany due to insufficient demand. The convertible, which accounts for around 75 percent of sales, was initially still offered. In other markets, where more coupes than convertibles are sold, the version is available unchanged. In February 2018, Volkswagen announced that it would also stop importing the convertible. In Germany, this could only be ordered with optional equipment until the end of March, since then only stock vehicles have been available.
history
On April 18, 2011, in the run-up to the Shanghai Motor Show , Volkswagen AG presented the new Beetle as "The 21st Century Beetle" (the Beetle of the 21st century) .
On the same day, Volkswagen presented the Beetle together with MTV and international music stars on the MTV World Stage.
The market launch in Germany took place on November 5, 2011. The Beetle is available in the three equipment lines Beetle , Design and Sport . The engine range for Europe includes three petrol engines , the new 1.2-liter TSI with 77 kW (105 PS), the 1.4-liter engine with 118 kW (160 PS) and, as the top engine, the 2.0-liter TSI with 147 kW (200 PS) as well as two diesel engines with 1.6 liters and 77 kW (105 PS) or 2.0 liters and 103 kW (140 PS). Prices in Germany start at 17,150 euros for the 1.2-liter variant with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Since November 9, 2012, the Beetle has been available in Germany as a convertible with the engines available for the hatchback version at prices starting at 21,350 euros (1.2 TSI with 77 kW / 105 PS). The vehicle was unveiled to the public on November 28, 2012 at the Los Angeles Auto Show .
Special edition GSR
As a homage to the VW Beetle 1303 S, the special Beetle "GSR" ("Yellow-Black Racer") model was released in spring 2013. This is limited to 3500 units and has the engine of the Golf VI GTI with 154 kW (210 PS). The vehicle accelerates to 100 km / h in 7.3 s and the top speed is 229 km / h.

Facelift
In spring 2016, the Beetle was given a facelift. The focus was on the design of the front apron with narrow bumpers and optional LED rear lights. At the same time, the new equipment lines "Dune" and "Denim" were introduced.
