history

The village was first mentioned in 1194 and is of Slavic origin. In the 15th century it belonged to the Marienwohlde monastery . Monks and nuns of this Brigittenorder , who had lived in Bälau until 1428, acquired a farm in Lübeck in 1431 near the junction between Balauerfohr and Wahmstrasse .
