Horb am Neckar is a city in the southwest of Baden-Württemberg and is located about 50 kilometers from Stuttgart.

Horb is the largest municipality in the Freudenstadt district , has been a major district town since 1981 and is part of the " Cooperation Zone Metropolitan Region Stuttgart ". The city forms a middle center in the Northern Black Forest region .

Horb is located in the Obere Gäue natural area at the confluence of the Grabenbach in the Neckar , which has dug a valley more than a hundred meters deep into the Gäu high plateau. Horb was first mentioned in a document around 1090 under the name horv or horva , which means swamp in Old High German . Another characteristic of today's cityscape is that the entire old town is located on a hill and can therefore be easily seen from all directions. The chopping well , which can still be used today, supplied the residents of the western Neckarstrasse with drinking water until almost the end of the 19th century. A corridor leads deep into the Schüttenberg foothills through the lower old town to the Hackbrunnenquelle. The "Hagbrunnen" was first mentioned in 1472.

Horb was first mentioned as a city in 1228 . In 1244 there was talk of a mayor and in 1277 for the first time a market . Until 1305 the place belonged to the Count Palatine of Tübingen , then the Count of Hohenberg ; In 1381 Horb came to Austria ( Front Austria ) and became the seat of the Hohenberg High Bailiwick Office. From 1971 to 1975 a total of 18 surrounding communities, including the places Betra, Dettensee, Dettingen, Dettlingen and Dießen, which were formerly part of the Hechingen district, were incorporated into Horb and thus assigned to the Horb district or its legal successor, the Freudenstadt district.

Christianity

Horb am Neckar initially belonged to the Diocese of Constance and was assigned to the Archdiaconate Vor dem Walde, Landkapitel Dornstetten. The city of Horb was founded around the middle of the 13th century by the Count Palatine of Tübingen ; the already existing place Horb was included in the city. The Flößersteg connects the station area across the Neckar with the lower market square of the city.

Horb is very well connected via the motorway, national highways and four railway lines with several train stations (including long-distance traffic) in the city area.

The city offers thousands of jobs through several industrial areas and small and large industrial companies. The most important industrial areas are Weststadt, Heiligenfeld, Hohenberg and Hohenmührigen. As one of the few large cities in the greater Stuttgart area, Horb has a wide range of buildable land with good infrastructure at the same time.   • Berthold Auerbach Literature Prize: Since 1982, the 100th year of Berthold Auerbach's death, the city of Horb has awarded the Berthold Auerbach Literature Prize .
  • Maximilian Ritterspiele: The biggest annual event in Horb is the Maximilian Ritterspiele at the beginning of summer. At the games (almost 60,000 visitors were counted in 2005), the city is renovated in a medieval style and a market corresponding to that time is offered, where numerous showmen and jugglers appear. The jousting games were held for the first time in June 1997. Among other things, they go back to an idea of ​​the then mayor Michael Theurer and are reminiscent of the deposition of Eberhard II by the Roman-German King Maximilian I in 1498.
  • The Musiktage Horb is an annual series of classical concerts organized by the city's music school.
  • Mini-Rock-Festival : The voluntarily organized mini-rock-festival has taken place every year since 2005. This festival was held for the last time in 2018.
  • Horber Rail Days : The symposium founded by Kurt Bielecki, the largest German-speaking conference on the subject of “rail”, has been held every November since 1983.
  • Horber Fasnet: On January 6th, the masks are removed from the masks by the court marshal and jester's council, dusted off and given to the groups. In the period up to the main carnival, the Horb fools' guild organizes the opening ball. On the Schmotzigen Thursday the street fair begins with the handover of the keys on the historic market square. "Fun uf d'r Gass" is the motto. From now on the fools have sovereignty in the Neckarstadt and the people greet each other with the Horber fool's cry Horrido. On Carnival Saturday there is a children's ball in the Hohenberghalle in Horb. The highlight of the street carnival is the procession through the alleys of Horb, which is designed by groups of feet from the area and framed by a huge number of partying spectators.
