About this picture

Greven is a municipality in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). It is administered by the Boizenburg-Land Office , based in the non-official city of Boizenburg / Elbe .

The districts of Greven, Leisterförde, Granzin (formerly: Granzin near Boizenburg ), Lüttenmark and Sternsruh belong to Greven.

geography

The municipality of Greven is located on the federal highway 195 between the cities of Zarrentin am Schaalsee and Boizenburg on the state border with Schleswig-Holstein . The Boize and the Mühlenbach flow through the municipality in a southerly direction to the Sude and Elbe. In the municipality is the highest point of the Granziner Heidberge at 103 meters.

history

Granzin, Lüttenmark and Leisterförde are already listed in the Ratzeburg tithe register from 1230 as villages of the state of Boizenburg. Since Granzin is recorded as the first place, it was already a church village back then. The church, consecrated to St. Martin and belonging to the diocese of Ratzeburg, was first mentioned in documents in 1335. During the Lübeck feud in 1505, the church was destroyed, but was rebuilt in the same year as a simple wooden structure under the Ratzeburg bishop Johannes von Parkentin .

It is difficult to decide whether Greven is also mentioned in the Ratzeburg tithe register: The corresponding entry is blurred and can be read by both Gerum ( Gehrum ) and Gervin .

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Granzin was incorporated near Boizenburg.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag. The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the state of Mecklenburg. It shows a looking bull's head with torn off the neck fur and crown and the inscription "GEMEINDE GREVEN • LANDKREIS LUDWIGSLUST-PARCHIM".

The architectural monuments of the municipality are listed in the list of architectural monuments in Greven .

Greven village church

In 1905-06, the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg had a half-timbered church or chapel from the 17th century, which was once at this point, replaced by the neo-Gothic church building with its 34-meter-high slender tower. Two carved, life-size figures of saints from the 15th century and a crucifix from the 14th century have been preserved from the previous building. The altarpiece is on loan from the parish in the rebuilt nave of the former Dargelütz village church in the Klockenhagen open-air museum in Ribnitz-Damgarten . Today's church is a neo-Romanesque brick building with a cross-shaped floor plan . The two church bells were newly purchased after the Second World War. Today the church is about to decay and is on the list of endangered village churches in Mecklenburg .

St. Martin Church Granzin

Brick building in the classical style, the half-timbered tower that has no connection to the hall church, still comes from the former half-timbered church. This was demolished in the 17th century, only the lattice tower remained. In the large gallery there is an old Frisian organ from the 19th century. The church has 2 bronze bells that date from the Middle Ages . One of the bells was cast in 1409, the other bell from 1510 was cast by the well-known master bell founder Heinrich von Campe.

Chapel in Lüttenmark

17th century half-timbered chapel. A simple half-timbered building with the base of an elongated square. The tower is on the west side, in this is a metal bell acquired in 1957.
