- Warsaw / Poland : Poland takes over the EU Council Presidency for six months and, as a result of the Lisbon Treaty, shares the EU Presidency with Herman Van Rompuy , who has been President of the European Council since December 1, 2009 .

- Berlin / Germany : Rainer Woelki is appointed Archbishop of the local Catholic diocese .
- Hamburg / Germany : The Ukrainian box -Profi Wladimir Klitschko , heavyweight champion of the great organizations International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Organization and the smaller Association International Boxing Organization wins against the British David Haye unanimously on points and inherit it as the world heavyweight champion of the Association of World Boxing Association .
- London / United Kingdom : The Czech Petra Kvitová wins the women's singles tournament of the Wimbledon Championships in tennis against the Russian Marija Sharapova .

- Bangkok / Thailand : The Pheu-Thai party around Yingluck Shinawatra, which is close to the “red shirts” , achieved an absolute majority in the parliamentary elections .
- Lodz / Poland : In the final of the 33rd European Basketball Championships the women defeated Russia the Turkey with 59:42.
- London / United Kingdom : In the Wimbledon Championships in tennis in the final of wins Men Novak Djokovic against Rafael Nadal with 6: 4, 6: 1, 1: 6 and 6: 3rd
- St. Pölten / Austria : In the municipal council elections, the SPÖ defends the absolute majority with 56.76% . The ÖVP achieved 25.29%, the FPÖ 10.71% and the GREEN 4.88%.

- Regensburg / Germany : The appeal hearing against Richard Williamson begins before the district court on charges of sedition . The trial ends on July 11th with Williamson being sentenced to a fine of 6,500 euros.

- Bur Sudan / Sudan : At least 197 people are killed in a fire on a ship carrying refugees on the way to Saudi Arabia .
- The Hague / Netherlands : An appeals court holds the Netherlands responsible for the deaths of three Bosniaks during the Srebrenica massacre and orders compensation payments for the bereaved.
- Karlsruhe / Germany : Oral hearing on the lawsuit against the Monetary Union Financial Stability Act , which enables Germany to participate in the emergency loans for Greece , begins before the Federal Constitutional Court .
- London / United Kingdom : A group of art experts attribute the painting Salvator Mundi to Leonardo da Vinci after completing their research .
- Vienna / Austria : Opening of the 13th European Maccabiade .
- Washington, DC / United States : Christine Lagarde from France becomes Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund .

- Berlin / Germany : The Bundestag decides to approve pre-implantation diagnostics within narrow limits.
- London / United Kingdom : As a result of a wiretapping scandal , the News Corporation announces that the tabloid News of the World , which is involved in it, will appear and be discontinued for the last time on July 10th.
- United Nations : The UN Security Council calls to the Resolution 1996 , the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) as a follow-up mission of the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) to life. The occasion is the planned separation of South Sudan from Sudan two days later .

- Cape Canaveral / United States : The Atlantis starts the last space shuttle mission STS-135 and transports the multi-purpose logistics module Raffaello and a Lightweight Multi-Purpose Carrier (LMC) to the ISS .

- Kisangani / DR Congo : At least 127 people are killed in the crash of a Boeing 727 operated by Hewa Bora Airways .

- Lucknow / India : In a train accident in the state of Uttar Pradesh , at least 69 people are killed and more than 210 others are injured.
- Roth / Germany : The German triathlete Andreas Raelert sets a new world record in the Challenge Roth over the Ironman distance, in the women’s race, the British Chrissie Wellington also wins in a new world record.

- Frankfurt am Main / Germany : Japan defeated the USA 5-3 on penalties in the final of the women's soccer World Cup , making them world champions for the first time .
- São Tomé / São Tomé and Príncipe : In the first round of the presidential election , Manuel Pinto da Costa got 36%, Evaristo de Carvalho 22%, while Delfim Neves and Maria das Neves each got 14% of the vote. Manuel Pinto da Costa and Evaristo de Carvalho will face a runoff on August 7, 2011.

- Hanoi / Vietnam : The presidential candidate Trương Tấn Sang proposed at the eleventh congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam is sworn in by the National Assembly and confirms the previous Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng in his office.
- Istanbul / Turkey : More than four years after the murder of the Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink , a court sentenced the perpetrator to almost 23 years in prison.
