Rosenheim (district of Altenkirchen) is a municipality in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Betzdorf-Gebhardshain community .
Geographical location
The local community is located in the northern Westerwald between Betzdorf and Hachenburg ; Neighboring communities are Elkenroth in the northeast, Nauroth in the southeast, Luckenbach in the southwest and Malberg in the west.
history
Rosenheim used to be called Kotzenroth , which can be traced back to the Old High German first name Cozo from the time of clearing. The renaming was applied for by the residents, after many years of dispute the name Rosenheim was accepted by the authorities in 1963. It is named after the Rossbach flowing through Rosenheim , a brook that flows into the Kleine Nister . The place is still called Kotzert in dialect - especially by older residents .
The community belongs with the neighboring parishes as an exclave to the Diocese of Trier , which is why the area is also called " Trier Island ".
Rosenheim was a mining site for a long time. Iron ore was mined here until 1906 (“Hochacht” mine) and basalt until 1976. The largest quarry, the Rosenheimer Lay , is now a nature reserve .
