Saint-Auban is a French municipality with 291 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (before 2016: Picardie ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Laon , the canton of Vic-sur-Aisne (until 2015: canton of Coucy-le-Château-Auffrique ) and the Picardie des Châteaux municipality .
geography
Saint-Auban is located around 35 kilometers west-southwest of Laon in the Ailette Valley. The community is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Paul-aux-Bois in the north, Trosly-Loire in the northeast, Selens in the southeast, Vassens in the southwest and Blérancourt in the west.
history
In 1235, Enguerrand III. de Coucy gave the residents of Saint-Aubin a power to settle on the spot. Enguerrand III. The construction of a castle built in 1232 west of the village is also attributed. This was badly damaged during the First World War . Today only a few remains of a two-story chapel remain.
At the time of the French Revolution , the place was called Franc-Cœur-la-Carrière .
