The three- cushion world cup 1997/6 was the first BWA world cup tournament in the twelfth year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from September 30 to October 5, 1997 in this discipline of carom billiards in Oosterhout . It was the sixth three-cushion World Cup tournament in Oosterhout.

history

After the agreement between UMB and BWA was finally reached, UMB players could also compete in this BWA World Cup tournament without running the risk of being banned. This was clearly visible through the good results. The winner was the Belgian Frédéric Caudron with a 3-1 set win over Dick Jaspers . Third place went to Semih Saygıner from Turkey against Roland Forthomme . The first appearance of the world number one and record World Cup winner Torbjörn Blomdahl in the round of 16 ended with a disappointment for the Swede. Gelsenkirchen's Stefan Galla , who played strong at the last UMB World Cup tournaments, won 3-1 sets and ended up eighth.

The exact price money could not be determined from the documents.

Tournament mode

The World Cup tournament was played as an open tournament again. From a pre-qualification with a maximum of 124 participants, 10 participants qualify for the 1/16 final. The main tournament is played with 28 participants. The first four of the world rankings are set for the round of 16. In future, 14 participants are set. The participants are recruited from the best 14 players in the current world rankings, as well as two national and international wildcards. The whole tournament, with the exception of the small final, is played in the KO system with three sets of 15 points each. (BWA.Ghent press release, January 8, 1994)

From 1995 onwards there was no more qualification tournament in Spa.

In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:

  1. MP = match points
  2. GD = general average
  3. HS = maximum series
