Mark Kirchner (born April 4, 1970 in Neuhaus am Rennweg ) is a former German biathlete and today's biathlon trainer.

At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville Kirchner won medals in all three competitions, two years later he was at the Winter Games in Lillehammer standard-bearer of the German delegation at the opening ceremony and won gold in the biathlon - Season . Mark Kirchner was world champion seven times between 1990 and 1995 , three of them in the sprint. Because of his great dominance at that time, he was also called the alien. After his dominance phase, Kirchner's performance began to decline rapidly and massively, especially when shooting. Therefore, Kirchner switched to cross-country skiing in 1999, but without achieving any major success.

For his Olympic medals in 1992 he received the Silver Laurel Leaf from Federal President von Weizsäcker .

After his active career, Kirchner is a biathlon trainer. For the 2007/08 season Kirchner became the assistant national coach of Frank Ullrich and took care of the youth work at the Oberhof base . Before that, he headed course group 1b of the men's biathlon for two years. For the 2010/11 season he took over the position of senior discipline trainer for Frank Ullrich's men's team. After the 2018 Winter Olympics , he was appointed biathlon head coach, making him responsible for both men and women.
