history

Neuhütten with its current districts belonged to the Sponheim fiefdom of Züsch until the end of the 18th century . Neuhütten already formed a joint district with Schmelz and Zinsershütten , which covered an area of 611 hectares. In 1790 the village of Neuhütten had 100 inhabitants, Schmelz 164 inhabitants and Zinsershütten 127 inhabitants.

In 1794 the Left Bank of the Rhine was taken by French revolutionary troops. In 1797 Johannes Bückler, known as Schinderhannes , stayed with the widow Dupré in Muhl . From 1798 to 1814 Neuhütten belonged to the canton Hermeskeil in the Saar department . Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region came under the Kingdom of Prussia . The municipality was assigned to the mayor's office Hermeskeil in the district of Trier established in 1816 and belonged to the Rhine province from 1822 until the end of the Second World War . Neuhütten has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .

On March 10, 1966, the Bundeswehr's 50th Starfighter was lost in the forest near the forester's house in Neuhof, just five years after it was put into service. In the morning, the 28-year-old pilot Sergeant Horst Stüber took off with his F 104 “Starfighter” at the air base of the Fighter Bomber Wing 33 in Büchel / Eifel on a training flight at low altitude to France. Shortly before 2 p.m. the machine crashed into a forest below the Tirolerkopf. The later investigation showed that the so-called "kicker", an automatic system to prevent the aircraft from booming too much, had literally knocked the control stick out of the pilot's hand and pushed the aircraft to the ground. After Stüber had not reported for a long time on March 10th, search work began, but was ended when it was dark. It was not until the next day that an RWE troop discovered the crashed machine that had damaged the power line to the Neuhof forester's lodge in the course of the crash. The remains of the machine were scattered over 600 meters. Aircraft parts are still found here today.

On November 7, 1970, the Muhl area with 150 inhabitants was transferred from the Börfink community to Neuhütten.

coat of arms

Neuhütten coat of arms
Blazon : "Above a shortened, looped silver tip, inside a black furnace with red tapping and a red flame leaking out from above, two golden stag poles in green enclosing two silver houses with a golden roof."
Foundation of the coat of arms: The place goes back to an ironworks founded at the end of the 17th century. After 1760, a settlement called "Maltets barracks" and later "new huts" was set up between the two present-day districts. The melting furnace in the shield foot is a reminder of the founding of the place. The two houses stand as a talking coat of arms for Neuhütten and the newly added district of Muhl. The two golden stag poles are an indication of the abundance of forest and game in the community.
