The Opel Corsa F is a small car from Opel Automobile GmbH , which has been offered as the successor to the Corsa E since June 2019 . In contrast to the previous models, the sixth generation of the Corsa series is only produced as a five-door model and is based on the Common Modular Platform (CMP) of the PSA Group.

development

As early as 2012, rumors were circulating about a successor to the Corsa E, which was manufactured from 2014. While the latter has only slightly modified the floor assembly of the Corsa D , the successor to the Corsa E should be based on a new platform. The first prototypes, so-called Erlkönige , which are similar to the Corsa E in terms of concept and dimensions, were viewed, photographed and shown by individual specialist magazines and web portals from 2016.

In view of the takeover of Opel by the PSA Group, which was completed in summer 2017, the start of series production of a successor to the Corsa E was expected "for 2019". The start originally planned for 2018 was delayed because the projected model was now to be given a PSA platform, which required an extensive "redesign".

Multiple changes of platform during planning

The development history of the Corsa F is characterized by multiple changes in planning.

In December 2012 Adam Opel AG signed a product development contract with the French PSA group; The aim was to jointly develop certain components and modules, above all a common platform for the successor to the Opel Corsa and Citroën C3 models . Another source later reported that collaboration on the small car project had been abandoned and a new GM / Opel platform was being developed.

At the beginning of 2017, in view of the takeover of Opel by PSA, it was decided not to use parts of the previous parent company General Motors for new Opel models. Rather, the successor to the Corsa E will be developed with a new PSA floor assembly; series production will shift from 2018 to 2019.

General

The new Corsa was officially presented by Opel on May 23, 2019, initially as the electric version Opel Corsa-e . The variant with combustion engines made its debut on June 26, 2019. The Corsa-e has been available to order since June 4, 2019 at prices starting at 29,900 euros. The other models can be ordered from July 1, 2019 at prices starting at EUR 13,990. The market launch was on November 16, 2019. The Corsa-e has been at Opel dealerships since March 28, 2020.

The Corsa F is only manufactured at the Opel Figueruelas plant . In the Eisenach plant , the Adam is no longer available in addition to the Corsa . In future, there only the SUV model Grand Country X produced.

In the UK , the Corsa is again sold under the Vauxhall brand .

On October 7, 2019, Opel started official series production of the Corsa F in Figueruelas. The start of series production of the Corsa-e was announced for January 2020.

The Opel Corsa F is the first vehicle in the small car class for which an automatic transmission with eight stages and adaptive matrix LED headlights is available as an option .

technology

Like the Peugeot 208 II , the small car is based on the Common Modular Platform (CMP) introduced with the DS 3 Crossback at the end of 2018 . It also uses high-strength and ultra- high-strength steels, so that the lightest model of the Corsa saves a total of 108 kg and the body shell 40 kg. The c w value of the body is 0.29.

As in the Peugeot 208, there is a choice of 1.2-liter gasoline engine in three output levels, a diesel engine and an electric motor .

All models are front-wheel drive . The smallest gasoline engine is linked to a five-speed manual transmission . The approximately 74 kW (100 hp) engines have a six-speed manual transmission as standard. An eight- speed automatic transmission is also available for the gasoline engine at an additional cost and is supplied as standard with the most powerful gasoline engine.
