Abruzzo DOC

Under the name Abruzzo DOC are Italian white and red wines and sparkling wines from the region Abruzzo marketed. Since 2010 they have had a "controlled designation of origin " (Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC ), which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Abruzzo DOC is offered in the following types of wine:

  • Abruzzo Bianco . Must consist of at least 50% Trebbiano abruzzese and / or Trebbiano Toscano grape varieties . A maximum of 50% other white, non-aromatic grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Abruzzo region may be added.
  • Abruzzo Rosso . Must consist of at least 80% Montepulciano grape variety . A maximum of 20% other red, non-aromatic grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Abruzzo region may be added.
  • Abruzzo Passito Bianco - must be made from at least 60% partially rosinated grapes of the Malvasia , Moscato , Passerina , Pecorino , Riesling , Sauvignon Blanc and / or Traminer grapes . A maximum of 40% other analogous grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Abruzzo region may be added.
  • Abruzzo Passito Rosso - must be made from at least 60% partially rosinated grapes of the Montepulciano grape variety . A maximum of 40% other analogous grape varieties that are approved for cultivation in the Abruzzo region may be added.
  • Abruzzo Spumante Bianco - must be made to at least 60% from the grape varieties Chardonnay , Cococciola , Montonico , Passerina , Pecorino and / or Pinot nero - individually or together.
