The Iowa Stars (2008 to 2009 Iowa Chops ) were an American ice hockey franchise in the American Hockey League in Des Moines , Iowa . The star venue was the Wells Fargo Arena . The Iowa Stars had until the end of the 2007/08 season , the farm team of the Dallas Stars . In the 2008/09 season , the team in Iowa was the new AHL partner of the Anaheim Ducks. With the change of the NHL partner team, the name of the team changed to Chops . Because of a violation of the league rules, the team was excluded from the game for the 2009/10 season . In May 2010, the franchise rights were finally sold to the owner of the Texas Stars .

The Iowa Stars were formed by Howard Baldwin, Hockey Holdings & Management Group and Bob Schlegel and played their first AHL season in the 2005/06 game year . The club had a five-year cooperation agreement with the Dallas Stars and a one-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers . However, the contract with the stars ends after the 2007/08 season by mutual agreement. A new partner was found in the Anaheim Ducks . In the course of the partner change, the team name was changed to Iowa Chops. Before moving to Des Moines, the franchise operated under the name Louisville Panthers from 1999 to 2001 .
