The 2012/13 snooker season was a series of snooker tournaments that were part of the Main Tour .
A first version of the provisional calendar was published by the World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association (WPBSA) in late February 2012.
The International Championship in China was new to the calendar . Since the Wuxi Classic was raised from the status of an invitation tournament to that of a world ranking tournament, there are now five ranking tournaments in China. Thailand was the venue for the 6-Red World Championship , which was held between 2008 and 2010, but was not part of the main tour calendar despite professional participation.
The number of tournaments in the Players Tour Championship (PTC) was increased from 13 to 14 (including the final tournament), and the PTC also made a stop in Asia for the first time.

World ranking
Since the 2010/11 season, the snooker world rankings have been updated after every tournament in which there are ranking points. This becomes the new seeding list for the following tournaments several times during the season - at the so-called cut-off points .
This change in the set of rules reflects the current level of performance of the snooker player better and also prevents the same players from clashing again and again. The ranking still covers a period of 24 months. This prevents a player with just one big tournament win from being able to get to the top of the ranking very quickly. Rather, one wants to see continual good performance rewarded.
