Amanvillers ( German Amanweiler , 1940-44 Almansweiler ) is a French commune with 2161 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).

geography

The municipality of Amanvillers is twelve kilometers northwest of Metz on the border with the Meurthe-et-Moselle department . The A4 Paris - Strasbourg car route runs north of the village and can be reached via the connection at Sainte-Marie-aux-Chênes six kilometers away . Amanvillers station was on the Conflans-Jarny-Metz railway line .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1177 as an Almanviller and destroyed and abandoned around 1300. From 1448 it was rebuilt and repopulated. When Amanvillers was liberated from German occupation in autumn 1944, over 85% of it was destroyed.
