history

In 1490 the place was mentioned for the first time in church accounts. Spelling of the first mention: (der) Braß . The name Brasshagen appeared for the first time in 1750 . The origin of the name is the family name Braß or Brasse . The Topographia Ducatus Montani map from 1715 shows the farm as wirtshag , the topographical image of the Rhineland as Brashagen . In the 18th century the place belonged to the Bergisches Amt Bornefeld-Hückeswagen .

In 1815/16 38 people lived in the village. In 1832 Braßhagen belonged under the name Brashagen to the Lüdorfer Honschaft , which was part of the Hückeswagen external citizenship within the Hückeswagen mayor's office . The place, categorized as a hamlet according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had four residential buildings and eight agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 28 people lived in the village, four of whom were Catholic and 24 were Protestant.

In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885 three houses with 47 inhabitants are given. At that time the place belonged to the rural community Neuhückeswagen within the Lennep district . In 1895 the place had four houses with 13 inhabitants, in 1905 four houses and 20 inhabitants.

Braßhagen was in the immediate vicinity of the old Bergische Eisenstrasse and was therefore on an important trade route, which later became less important. Today the place is characterized by residential development and agriculture.
