Mitberg is a court in Hückeswagen in the Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative district of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

Mitberg is located in the northern Hückeswagen near the Wuppertalsperre . Neighboring places are Vormwald , Oberhombrechen , Mittelhombrechen , Niederhombrechen , Niederbeck , Kormannshausen , Neukretze and Karrenstein . The Hofschaft can be reached via two access roads, which branch off from the K11 district road at Kormannshausen; the upstream parts are also directly on the district road.

The Kretzer Bach rises north of Mitberg and flows into the Wuppertalsperre. However, this is not shown on many maps.

Mitberg and the surrounding area in 1927

In 1481 the place was mentioned for the first time in a list of donations for the Marien Altar of the Hückeswagen church. Spelling of the first mention : zom Etberg . The map Topographia Ducatus Montani from 1715 shows the farm as Mitberg . In the 18th century the place belonged to the Bergisches Amt Bornefeld-Hückeswagen .

In 1815/16 there were eleven residents in the village. In 1832 Mitberg belonged to the Herdingsfelder Honschaft , which was part of the Hückeswagen external citizenship within the Hückeswagen mayor . The place, categorized as a hamlet according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had three residential buildings and two agricultural buildings at the time. At that time, 18 residents lived in the village, all of whom were Protestant.

In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885, two houses with nine inhabitants are given. At that time the place belonged to the rural community Neuhückeswagen within the Lennep district . In 1895 the place had two houses with nine inhabitants, in 1905 two houses and nine inhabitants.

Economy and industry

In the area around Mitberg copper mining had been going on since at least 1751, which came to a standstill in 1866 at the latest.
