The juniors' ice hockey world championship in 1984 was the eighth edition of the world championship in the under-20 age group (U20) by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The defending champion from the Soviet Union won his sixth world title in the U20 age group.
The A-World Championship took place from December 25, 1983 to January 3, 1984 in the Swedish cities of Norrköping and Nyköping . The B-World Championship was the 19th bis 25. March 1984 in Caen in France held. The C-Group from was played from March 25th to 31st in Varese , Italy . A total of 23 countries took part in the three tournaments.
As in 1980 , there was no men's ice hockey world championship in the 1984 Olympic year , so the junior world championship was the only ice hockey world championship of that year.
A world championship
The World Cup took place in the Swedish cities of Norrköping and Nyköping . The team of the USSR became the junior world champion . The team from Switzerland was relegated and replaced by promoted Poland .

Players under 20 years of age (U-20) were allowed. Eight teams took part, each of which competed once against each group opponent in a common group. World champion became the group winner. The last was relegated to the B World Championship.
