EuroBerlin France , from 1990 EuroBerlin , was a French - German airline mainly operating to and from (West) Berlin , based in Paris and based at Berlin-Tegel Airport . It was a joint venture between Lufthansa and Air France .

history

EuroBerlin France was founded in 1988 on the initiative of the then state-owned Deutsche Lufthansa AG together with the likewise state-owned Air France as a joint venture as part of the German-French government cooperation. Since only airlines of the victorious powers of the Second World War were allowed to fly to West Berlin (compare the history of Air Berlin ), Air France held 51% of the shares, while the Lufthansa Group had an equity stake of 49%. The company began flight operations on November 7, 1988 with the start of the winter flight schedule.

In this way, through the slots , the Lufthansa Group was able to use the slots to gain indirect access to West Berlin that was valuable in terms of market strategy. With the reunification of Germany in 1990, this strategic market goal was achieved, so that EuroBerlin France was renamed EuroBerlin in the same year. Until it was dissolved in December 1994, it flew as a low-cost airline on behalf of Lufthansa, which has been using the EuroBerlin slots at Berlin-Tegel Airport since then.

The logo on the vertical stabilizer of the aircraft from EUR Berlin France symbolized this joint venture between the two flag carriers : the circular area recalled the stylized sun Lufthansa, the "pieced" tricolor at Air France.

Only seven modern Boeing 737-300s registered in the United Kingdom were used as aircraft , with an average of 60% profitable seat capacity utilization. The machines were operated in wet lease by the British charter airline Monarch Airlines . The cockpit crews were provided by Monarch, while the cabin crews were their own staff.

Destinations

EuroBerlin France connected Berlin-Tegel Airport with the West German destinations of Düsseldorf , Frankfurt am Main , Hamburg , Cologne / Bonn , Munich and Stuttgart . In addition to scheduled flights, there were also seasonal charter flights to the Mediterranean, Great Britain, Ireland and Scandinavia.

fleet

When the company was dissolved in 1994, the EuroBerlin fleet consisted of three aircraft:

  • 3 Boeing 737-300 ( leased from Monarch Airlines)
