The list of German libraries includes a selection of important academic libraries and other libraries in Germany.

There are over 14,300 libraries in Germany. In Germany, the federal government is responsible for a total of 50 libraries, including the German National Library , the library of the German Bundestag , the libraries of the highest federal authorities , the federal courts and numerous federal research institutes . Due to their cultural sovereignty, the states have far more libraries, especially academic libraries, such as around 40 state, regional and state libraries, 80 university and 140 technical college libraries as well as libraries of state-owned institutions such as museums, research and educational institutions. In rare cases, municipalities also maintain academic libraries, but usually public libraries . Almost all large cities and the majority of medium-sized cities as well as numerous smaller municipalities have libraries; in terms of numbers, the municipalities are the most important library providers. There are also libraries run by the churches.

German National Library

The largest library in Germany is the German National Library , which with 34.2 million media units (as of early 2018) is one of the largest libraries in the world . It also publishes the German National Bibliography .
