The Saitama Stadium 2002 ( Jap. 埼玉スタジアム2002 , Saitama Sutajiamu 2002 ) is a football stadium in the Japanese city of Saitama , Saitama Prefecture . It was built on the occasion of the soccer world championship in 2002 and completed in July 2001. The construction costs amounted to 319 million . It currently has 63,718 spectators. The main user of the stadium is the football club Urawa Red Diamonds , which plays its home games in the J. League Division 1 here.

Saitama Stadium 2002 is intended to be the venue for soccer tournaments during the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo .
