The nature reserve is part of the steep, rocky south-east slope north of the Nahe.

history

Castle ruin Schloßböckelheim

The old forms of name for Wald-, Schloß- and Talböckelheim are traced back to a "uilla Beccchilenheim", which is handed down in a document from 824. Emperor Heinrich IV was briefly arrested in the place by his son, who later became Heinrich V. The name Schloßböckelheim did not appear until the 17th century. In the 19th century the name Thalböckelheim caught on. In 1910 the local council agreed to introduce the name Schloßböckelheim. The historical significance of Schloßböckelheim and the fact that Schloßböckelheim was already well known in viticulture and the wine trade at the turn of the last century were cited as important reasons for the name change. A decree of April 1911 approved the municipality's application. Since then, the two districts Thalböckelheim and Schloßböckelheim have been united under the uniform place name "Schloßböckelheim".

In Schloßböckelheim, Schinderhannes committed a robbery on June 30, 1800, which became known as the Boot Battle .
