The Pontiac Vibe was a 2002 to 2009 American US by the car manufacturer Pontiac sold car model of the compact class .

The Vibe was produced together with its sister models Toyota Matrix and Toyota Voltz (2002–2004) by NUMMI in California . This joint venture between General Motors and Toyota had existed since the 1980s . Technically, the Vibe and the parallel models are based on the E-platform of the Toyota Corolla .

First-generation Vibe prototypes were shown at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2000. The series versions appeared in autumn 2002 for the 2003 model year.

From 2002 to 2006, the Vibe was offered as a basic model, a more powerful GT and an all-wheel drive model. For the 2007 model year, the range of models was limited to the basic model, as the all-wheel drive and GT models no longer met the emissions standards that were newly issued in the USA.

Pontiac Vibe (2004-2008)

In the Vibe, 16-valve in-line four-cylinder engines from Toyota with 1.8 liter displacement were used, which in the basic model (with manual or automatic transmission) 94–97 kW (128–132 hp), in the all-wheel drive version (only with automatic) 88–94 kW (120–128 PS) and in the GT (only with six-speed manual transmission) 122–135 kW (167–183 PS) made. In the basic version, the Vibe was the most economical model from General Motors in North America at the time (2007).

At the end of 2004 there was a slight facelift with a modified grille similar to that of the Pontiac Solstice , while the previous grill was based on the design of the now discontinued Pontiac Aztek .

From February 2008, the second generation of the Pontiac Vibe was available on the American market. The new model has a body that is 4.36 meters long, 1.76 meters wide and 1.60 meters high. A 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 132 hp and 174 Nm and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 158 hp and 224 Nm are used. The front-wheel drive versions are shifted by a manual five-speed gearbox or a four-speed automatic, the all-wheel drive variant is only combined with a manual gearbox.

The Vibe models are equipped with six airbags, ESP, tire pressure monitoring and active head restraints, among other things.

Toyota Voltz

Toyota Voltz (2002-2004)

The Toyota Voltz was a variant identical to the Vibe except for details, which was sold in Japan as a right-hand drive from 2002 to 2004; the import was stopped after two years and about 10,000 copies.
