Alan Martin Smith (born November 21, 1962 in Bromsgrove , England ) is a former English football player who was best known for his time at Arsenal .
Career
The striker began his career with amateur club Alvechurch before becoming a professional footballer for Leicester City in 1982 . There he formed a successful storm duo with Gary Lineker and scored 84 times in 206 games. Five years later he moved to Arsenal for a transfer fee of £ 850,000 , where he played until his retirement in 1995 and scored 166 goals in 324 games.
He was also active for the English national team , but far less successful there than in his club career. From 1988 to 1992 he scored two goals in 13 games.
