The Copa del Generalísimo 1971/72 was the 68th edition of the Spanish soccer cup competition , which takes place today under the name Copa del Rey .
The competition started on October 23, 1971 and ended with the final on July 8, 1972 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid . The defending champion of the cup competition was CF Barcelona . Atlético Madrid won the title by beating Valencia CF 2-1 in the final . The Madrilenians qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1972/73 .

The first legs were played on October 23 and 24 and on November 3, the second legs on November 7, 1971.
