- Brussels / Belgium : The European Commission and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy are launching the European Global Gateway strategy as an alternative to the New Silk Road infrastructure project initiated by the People's Republic of China in 2013 . In the period 2021–2027, it is intended to mobilize investments totaling 300 billion euros in the areas of digital, energy, transport and the strengthening of health, education and research systems in the world's emerging and developing countries. On the initiative of the USA, the G7 countries had already adopted a global infrastructure investment plan under the title Build Back Better World (B3W) at their summit in June 2021 .
- Stockholm / Sweden : In an online ceremony, Marthe Wandou , Wladimir Sliwjak , Freda Huson and the Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment are awarded the so-called " Alternative Nobel Prize ".
- Vienna / Austria : The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Fight against Terrorism will be transferred to the newly created Directorate for State Security and Intelligence under the direction of Omar Haijawi-Pirchner .
- Vienna / Austria : Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler announces that the construction of the planned Lobau tunnel will not be pursued any further.
- Hoofddorp / Netherlands : The logistics group FedEx announced that they have successfully completed the transformation of TNT Express , TNT Express is now just a brand. In the course of this, the company already announced that it would cut up to 6300 jobs across Europe in the express division.

- Dresden / Germany : The state parliament of Saxony has determined an epidemic emergency in the Free State, this creates a legal basis for further ordinances to contain the Covid-19 pandemic .
- Vienna / Austria : Karl Nehammer succeeds Sebastian Kurz as Federal Chancellor , at the same time the new government he heads is sworn in.
- Naypyidaw / Myanmar : The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former Prime Minister of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi is sentenced to four years imprisonment in a show trial for inciting riot and disregarding corona measures. She has been under house arrest since the military coup in February . A few hours after the verdict, the sentence is reduced to two years of house arrest.

- Berlin / Germany : The parties SPD , Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and Free Democratic Party sign the first traffic light coalition agreement at federal level.
- Berlin / Germany : The parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen elects Katharina Dröge and Britta Haßelmann , the FDP Christian Dürr as their chairmen.
- Paris / France : A 33-year-old man is arrested at Roissy Airport, allegedly involved in the murder of the Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi . He is released shortly afterwards because there was a mistake.

- Berlin / Germany : The German Bundestag elects Olaf Scholz as the ninth Federal Chancellor . Angela Merkel's term of office ends after 16 years . The new government is appointed by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and sworn in in the Bundestag.

- Bonn / Germany : The German Research Foundation announces the ten winners for the Leibniz Prize 2022 .

- Berlin / Germany : As part of the ceremony of the European Film Awards will Quo Vadis, Aida? Awarded as best European film by Jasmila Žbanić . Žbanić also received the award for best director, leading actress Jasna Đuričić received the award for best actress.
- Karlsruhe / Germany : The rail-bound part of the "combined solution " is inaugurated.
- Midwest / USA : 90 people were killed in a series of tornadoes .
- Porto Alegre / Brazil : Almost nine years after the devastating fire in a Brazilian nightclub that killed 242 people, four people responsible are sentenced to long prison terms.
