Fred Wampler (born October 15, 1909 in Carriers Mills , Saline County , Illinois , †  June 8, 1999 in Mason , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1959 and 1961 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Fred Wampler studied at Indiana State University in Terre Haute until 1940 . During World War II , he served in the US Navy between 1944 and 1946 . From 1950 to 1954, including during the Korean War , he was again active in this branch of service. Until 1960 he was a member of their reserve. Wampler otherwise worked as a teacher and broadcaster. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party . In the 1958 congressional elections , he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Cecil M. Harden on January 3, 1959 . Since he was not confirmed in 1960, he could only complete one term in Congress until January 3, 1961 .

In 1961 and 1962, Wampler worked for the Indiana-Illinois Wabash Valley Interstate Commission . In 1962 he applied unsuccessfully to return to Congress. He then worked from 1963 to 1970 as a regional coordinator in the field service of the Federal Ministry of the Interior . He then worked for the Ohio State Department of Natural Resources and Transportation from 1971 to 1976. Fred Wampler died on June 8, 1999 at the age of 89 in Mason.
